Wow, what a great Pennsylvania American Legion Convention we had at Harrisburg, Pa. July 15 thru 18, 2021. Although attendance was not at its peak, we still mustered some 2100 delegates for voting for the new Commander. I would like to thank all of you for your support and commitment to make the Pennsylvania American Legion a strong and prosperous organization, and for your commitment in helping the veterans of Pennsylvania receive the benefits they so rightly deserve. I also want to publicly thank my wife Amy, my children and grandchildren, my brothers and sister and several of our friends, who have traveled from afar to be part of the ceremonies.
I have already attended several events; first the Pennsylvania American Legion State Baseball finals in Ephrata starting on Saturday July 24th and ending on Wednesday, July 28th between Norchester and Paxton. The final score was 4- 3 with Norchester taking the title of Department Champion. Both teams will go to North Carolina for the National playoffs. We in Pennsylvania wish both teams Good Luck in the national playoffs. I have also traveled to the 15th District for the Housing for Homeless Veterans Corporation classic auto show in Wyalusing Pa. at Post 534, who put on an excellent show and were able to raise funds for the Homeless Corporation. And of course meeting after meeting for our American Legion. We have a lot of work to do for our membership, and John Fritz and his team will be available for you whenever you need them to help you in retaining and recruitment of our old and new members. So please do not be afraid to ask for assistance, they are here to help in any way they can. From August 5th thru the 8th, we are having the newly elected District Commanders into Headquarters for training, and hopefully the will use the information they receive in making sound decisions for the betterment of the Pa. American Legion. We also will be calling in several committees into Headquarters for their briefings and to make sure we are all on the same track and set the agenda for the coming year. Our National Convention is in Phoenix, Az. August 26th thru Sept. 2nd and I am looking forward to representing you on the National level and meeting the new National Commander, Paul Dillard, from the Lone Star State of Texas.
Our Pa. Hospital Tour dates are set for December, but we need to wait and see what rules and regulations the VA issues concerning the health and welfare of the patients. The decision will be made at a later date and we will surely let you all know if that occurs.
My charity this year is The Pennsylvania American Legion Emergency Assistance Fund and my slogan is, "ALL THE WAY"
Hopefully we have a successful year for the Pennsylvania American Legion.
God Bless You and God Bless America.
"ALL THE WAY" Michael Murphy, Dept. Commander
