You are appreciated

COMMANDER’S COLUMN

Paul Kennedy, Department Commander

I would first like to say THANK YOU to the members of our American Legion family who have made many contributions to our American Legion programs.  You are appreciated for all the community activities that you sponsor and participate in, for the many donations you have made, and for the new and fresh ideas that you contribute towards keeping our Legion alive and at the forefront of advocacy for our veterans and their families.  Sons of The American Legion, American Legion Riders and American Legion Auxiliary, thank you for your contributions to our Pennsylvania American Legion.

We will never reach our goals if we believe in limits.  I don’t believe we can’t.  I believe we can.  We are limitless.  We can’t change our past, but we do have the power to change our future.  We have the potential to do anything we want and to become 100% in membership.  We are capable of fulfilling all of our goals, every single one of them.  We are the only ones who can stop ourselves from succeeding.

Now that we have told ourselves that it is possible, we can achieve 100% in membership.  Do you believe it?  Do we believe that it’s possible for us to create a new dream for the Department of Pennsylvania, not the one we have seen in the past?  What is stopping us from achieving it?  What’s stopping us from turning our efforts into reality?  I think deep down, all of us know we are capable of reaching our goals, better membership and doing things that improve the lives of our veterans and their families if we are willing to work for it.  What is stopping us from this dream?  Our limitation is limitless.  The only thing that ever stops us from reaching our 100% goal is ourselves.  If we limit our goals, if we settle for less than 100%, if we listen to others who say we can’t reach our goals, then we will never reach the height we know we deserve.

The American Legion was not born with limitations.  We were born through years of experience, but we can decide now to develop new beliefs; a belief that we can have whatever we are willing to work for if we are prepared to work for it.  We must be prepared to learn what is required to reach our goals.  Imagine what we could achieve if we believed we were limitless.  Imagine what we could do if we just ignored that voice in our head that tells us that we can’t do it.  I don’t see failure as the end and I refuse to let setbacks or mistakes stop me from reaching the goals of The American Legion, Department of Pennsylvania.

Those who succeed don’t believe in limits.  They strive.  They don’t give up because it’s hard.  They don’t give up when they experience doubt.  They do not give up.  They keep working through setbacks and they keep at it.  They keep searching for new opportunities to increase our membership and help our veterans and families.  This is exactly how we have to be.

Getting membership is hard and we will never get far if we limit ourselves in anything we do.  We have the power to make our goal of 100% happen.

YOU have the choice to decide if you will work hard for it or just settle.

This is our goal.  Work it to your fullest potential.  We can’t change the past, but we do have the power to change our future.  We are responsible for our goals.  We are responsible for our results because we are the only one who can stop us from turning our goals into reality.  We have the power to make 100% happen.  We have the choice to decide if we will work hard for it or just settle.  We have the choice to see how far this Department of Pennsylvania can go.
