Invasion of Kuwait/Operation Desert Shield

Invasion of Kuwait/Operation Desert Shield
Operation Desert Shield was a multinational military operation that began on August 6, 1990, in response to Iraq's invasion of Kuwait on August 2, 1990. The operation was a buildup phase to deter Iraq from further invasion into neighboring countries, such as Saudi Arabia. The coalition forces included troops from the United States, Kuwait, Britain, France, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt. The US deployed a large joint force, including naval, air, and ground forces. By August 21, 1990, the US had stationed fighter, attack, reconnaissance, electronic warfare, airlift, and tanker aircraft in the Gulf region.
The war's terms included Iraq recognizing Kuwait's sovereignty, divesting itself of all weapons of mass destruction, and continuing economic sanctions until full compliance.
