Juneteenth National Freedom Day

Juneteenth, a federal holiday that celebrates the emancipation of enslaved Black Americans, is a day that the American Legion recognizes. Juneteenth is celebrated on June 19th to commemorate the day in 1865 when the last enslaved people in Galveston, Texas were informed that they had been freed. The name Juneteenth is a combination of the words "June" and "nineteenth"
