Riders Report
AMERICAN LEGION RIDERS COMMITTEE
Jon Hosfeld
First, on behalf of the Department ALR committee we Thank Department Commander John Fritz for our appointments. Western section: David Hochstein. Central section: Jim Forry. Eastern section: Steve Tucholsky, and Department Chairman myself. Any of us may be contacted for any questions or concerns on the ALR program. We all would be glad to assist.
On August 10, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. the Department ALR committee meeting was called to order with proper protocol at Department Headquarters. Present were CVC Jim Forry, EVC Steve Tucholsky, and Chairman myself. WVC was excused for work. In addition Department ALR Advisor Troy Michael’s and Department Activities Director Lewis Jones were present.
Open discussion on direction of ALR program and priorities.
1. Promote Safe riding practices, awareness and without impairment.
2. Communication and Education with All ALR membership.
3. Where to find important information for guidance of Chapters and Post Commander’s
responsibilities.
The above three (3) items will be handled at West and East Legion college sessions.
As Chairman I have asked State ALR Director Michael Ross to submit a Legion college plan in order to share with other Departments for ideas and guidance of our ALR programs. Pennsylvania is viewed as one the very best run ALR programs by our National Organization.
The two proposals that were passed at the Department ALR Convention will be presented to the September DEC for approval by the Department DEC. If passed it will update Bylaws for clear path to improve discipline over Chapters, if needed, and close loopholes and alleviate any confusion on proper guidance to handle any alleged charges.
We discussed our Annual ALR Department ride. ALR Committee meeting was adjourned at 11:30 a.m.
Road Captain Tom Ross is seeking a Base Camp for our 2025 ride. More details to be released as planning stages are completed.
Questions and recommendations for the ALR to consider for moving our program to the next level.
1. Does the Annual Ride need an Official name?
2. Where should the Donations go?
3. We suggested ideas on how to raise additional donations for the National ALR Legacy run, after attending the National Convention it appeared that Pennsylvania did very little to support this great event. The donations go for the Veterans and Children Foundation.
These recommendations will be decided by the membership from the plan by Leadership of State ALR officers to request additional funds of support.
4. Also, we will strive to surpass our donations and volunteer hours of 2023-2024 Legion year. As information the ALR raised 580k, donated 550k, and over 114k volunteer hours.
Discussion on Delinquent Chapters revisited.
1. First year of Delinquency letter sent to Chapters and Post Commander to get reinstated, if desired.
2. Second year of Delinquency letter sent Post Commander to surrender ALR Charter to Department Headquarters for safe keeping, until such time it may be reissued in the future if possible restart of Chapter.
This is stated again that new members of the DEC are aware if the situation may arise. And reminder to all the procedure to handle issues.
In addition, State ALR Director Michael Ross asked for State ALR Officers who he appointed and one elected Region Director (due to resignation) to be sworn in which will be done.
In closing, we were asked by Department that Donations for the National ALR Legacy run, which I just spoke a just short time ago to be sent to Department Headquarters for compiling accurate record of monies made to this great cause. This will be a great assist when Department Leadership will proudly make our donations on the floor at National Convention. Please support all the programs so we can show our Pennsylvania Pride.
Thank you, and remember to ride and drive safely. Good Day to All.
