Army Chaplain Corps Anniversary
The United States Army Chaplain Corps' anniversary is July 29, 1775, the day the Continental Congress established the corps. General George Washington is said to have requested the establishment of the corps, telling Congress, “We need chaplains”. The Continental Congress also authorized one chaplain for each regiment of the Continental Army, with pay equal to that of a captain.
