Law and Order Program
We begin our meetings reciting the American Legion Constitution, “… to maintain law and order …”
The Law & Order Program is to honor the unsung heroes of our lives; the paid and unpaid law officers, firefighters, EMT’s and paramedics, who give unselfishly of themselves every day. The hours that they give are often above and beyond the call of duty and frequently they are not compensated for their dedication. Not to mention their families who also give of themselves in this effort, as many hours are spent away from home in their professional dedication to their fellow man.
Each year, The Pennsylvania American Legion gives its Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award to a well-rounded law enforcement officer who has exceeded the duty requirements expected of his or her position and has demonstrated a distinct pattern of community service coupled with professional achievement. The award, which especially takes into account heroic acts, is presented annually at our department convention. It is believed that this award serves to promote public trust and support of our law enforcement agencies.
The Pennsylvania American Legion will give a Firefighter of the Year Award to a firefighter who has exceeded the requirements expected of his or her position and has shown a distinct pattern of community service and professional achievement. The award, which takes into account heroic acts, will be given annually at the Legion's department convention.
The committee also awards Pennsylvania American Legion posts for their commitment and dedication to Law & Order. These awards are broken down into 5 categories dependent on post membership size.
