It is our very sad duty to announce the passing of Department Commander Steve Lavelle on Friday, June 14, 2024. Commander Lavelle was more than just the Commander. He was our friend and for many, family. He always said to us at HQ, I’m just Steve. That’s who he was, a very kind man who’s ego never surpassed him.
Commander Lavelle served The American Legion with pride, integrity and passion. He was the epitome of a Legionnaire. Commander Lavelle served on many committees throughout his legion career. Most recently (2015-2023) he was the Master Sgt-At-Arms for the Department. He served as District 11 Adjutant 2020-2023, District Deputy Commander 2016-2023, and District 11 Commander 2007-2009. Commander Lavelle also served on several National Committees over the years.
He will be very sorely missed. We ask that you keep his wife Donna, daughters Lori and Amy in your prayers. As well, please respect the privacy of Commander Lavelle’s family during this difficult time.
