Honoring veterans in Schuylkill County
Walmart tractor-trailers filled with wreaths paraded through Schuylkill County Thursday, on their way to St. Ambrose Church in Schuylkill Haven.
Each one carries hundreds of wreaths to honor fallen soldiers ahead of national Wreaths Across America day on Saturday.
"It's our way to honor the veterans. Remember, honor, and teach. That's our mission. We want to teach the future generations about our fallen soldiers and the sacrifices they made for us." said Kristina Miller, President of Schuylkill Haven American Legion Auxiliary Unit 38.
Not only the sacrifices those who have fallen made, but the sacrifices of active-duty service members.
"My brother was in for 32 years my brother was in Vietnam. And I just want to say thank you thank you so nobody can forget." said Joann Shupp of Schuylkill Haven.
"Well, it's very emotional for me I have a lot of military in my family but my husband served 6 years in the 70s and I was able to go with him overseas." said Donna Reichert, also from Schuylkill Haven.
Students from Schuylkill Haven Elementary Center also took part in the ceremony.
Veterans tell us how much a small gesture like this means this time of year.
"We all have friends who we served with and of course some of us lost some friends." said John Clauser, U.S. Air Force Veteran.
Each wreath transported to Schuylkill County today will be placed this weekend.
