“WELCOME BACK DEPARTMENT CHRISTMAS TOUR”
It was so great for our Legion and Auxiliary to be able to meet and greet with our veteran men and women who reside in our VA and State Homes in Pennsylvania. For some on the Tour it was their first time participating. The residents were pleased to have visitors and to receive a $10.00 gift for Christmas. Now since various venues are making a comeback at the facilities, this year coming should be beneficial for programs that are held by our VA Representatives and Deputies. They deserve a well done for staying the course thru the Covid period! The Tour had two facilities that we could not enter because of Covid restrictions, and they were the Altoona VA and Delaware Valley State Home. The residents definitely received their Christmas gifts! The remaining facilities in the State were visited with much pleasure. We also had two problems in distribution, one at the Butler VA and the Delaware Valley State Home. These gifts your Department presents to resident veterans are to be distributed by the Legion and Auxiliary and SAL. With further discussion in these facilities and with our Reps. And Deps, will work to rectify the glitches.
This program is more than a visit at the Christmas season. Your Representatives for the Legion and the Auxiliary including Deputies are there year round with many and varied functions provided for resident veteran men and women whom reside there. Various outings, such as baseball trips, fishing trips, shopping trips visiting local Legion Posts for lunch or dinner, many functions take place in the facility, such as bingo, art programs and so much more. And these are part of what our Reps. And Deps. Do the entire year. I personally want to thank them for remaining in place during the recent Covid period!
If there are questions that I can help with concerning this program, just ask and I will happily comply. My thanks to Commander Lavelle for the appointment. I am the Representative at The Heinz VA in Pittsburgh along with my wife Mary, the Auxiliary Representative.
