American Legion Post 210 in Doylestown receives grant
State Rep. Tim Brennan, D-29, and Sen. Steve Santarsiero, D-10, visited the Doylestown Borough Post to present the leaders with $100,000 to help replace the roof and rehab the deteriorating kitchen. In 2022, Santarsiero secured another $100,000 for the post to replace the parking lot and front steps.
“It’s one thing to voice your support for veterans. It’s another to demonstrate it,” Brennan said, in a statement. “Time and again, this community demonstrates its respect for the people who have served our country, and I’m proud I get to be a part of that.”
Local American Legion and VFW members like Ed Lopez, Peter Scott and Chris Serafin have been working diligently to raise awareness about the Post’s needs and money to address them.
The latest grant will go a long way toward supporting those heartfelt efforts to keep the property from being sold, said Lopez.
“Our veterans bravely served our country and deserve our support and appreciation here at home,” said Santarsiero, in a statement. “The need for upgrades (at the Post) is a testament to its use over time and the important role it serves for veterans in our community.”
For more than 90 years, the North Street post has been a beloved social and support center for veterans and the larger community.
“The funding we got back in 2022 was very important to us because it got the ball rolling, and we started believing we could actually save the building,” said Scott, Post 210’s commander, in a statement. “We now know that we can get there, and we appreciate both legislators supporting us along the way.”
The Post’s GoFundMe has raised more than $6,000 to date.
