SAMUEL W WORLEY SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT COMMITTEE
James McCurdy
The Scholarship Endowment Committee meeting was convened by James McCurdy, Chairman at 11:30 am on August 10, 2024.
Chairman McCurdy opened the meeting by leading the group with the Pledge of Allegiance. Additionally, an opening prayer was said.
The following Committee Members were present:
- James McCurdy Chairman
- Ed Gallagher Vice Chairman (East)
- John Baker Vice Chairman (West)
- Jeffrey Lippincott Vice Chairman (East)
- Ray Ishman Vice Chairman (West)
The following Committee Members were absent:
- Thomas D Berry (Central)
- Charles Oakley (Central)
The minutes of the June 8, 2024 were accepted as read.
Chairman McCurdy informed the Committee Samuel Worley was invited to the meeting however, he was unable to attend.
Chairman McCurdy presented an overview of the trust fund. He also informed the Committee about a donation from the American Legion Riders.
There was discussion about this year having money available however, we received no new applications. In past years, we received more applications than money available to support the scholarship. Scholarships will not be given out unless we have the money on hand for all four years.
There was a lengthy discussion on whether or not to raise the total income level to $80,000 (maximum) or less to be eligible. The Chairman asked for a motion a motion was made by Ed Gallagher to raise the amount to $80,000 and it was seconded by Jeffrey Lippincott. The motion carried with a unanimous vote.
Chairman McCurdy brought up to the group about going back to the Districts in your area pushing for donations from the Districts and Posts. It was also mentioned that individuals could make donations.
Chairman McCurdy asked for a motion to adjourn. A motion was made by John Baker and da second was made by Jeffrey Lippincott. Attendees voted unanimously to adjourn.
Meeting was adjourned by 12:10. The next meeting will be May 2025.
