Clearfield Jefferson Clarion American Legion Auxiliary County Council meets
The Clearfield Jefferson Clarion County Council meeting was held recently and hosted by the Berlin-Bowser American Legion Auxiliary Unit 720, at the legion social hall in Knox.
Knox Unit 720 President Paula McMillen welcomed all the council members. A catered dinner was served by the A La Carte Catering from Emlenton.
Following the dinner, the council opening ceremony was held and business was conducted, with auxiliary members from the following units: Clarion Unit 66; Sykesville Unit 345; Grampian Unit 632; New Bethlehem Unit 354; Knox Unit 720; Punxsutawney Unit 62; Strattanville Unit 249; Brockway Unit 95; and Reynoldsville Unit 392.
Unit reports were given from each unit in attendance. The unit reports consisted of the individual units’ activities from June 1 to Sept. 1, showcasing the many volunteer hours, special events and supporting the mission and goals of the American Legion organization.
Council district President Nancy Farwell stated that 2024-25 dues are now payable to the department. The district president challenged the units that she would provide a pizza party for each unit which makes goal with their membership. She listed her three goals for 2024-25: Clearfield Jefferson Clarion County Council Auxiliary membership will be at least 100 percent; there will be two educational sessions sponsored by her as the district president, for comradeship and general knowledge to be held during 2024-25; all units within the Clearfield Jefferson Clarion County Council will review and update their Constitution and by-laws and standing rules.
Farwell also said she would like to visit each unit within the council to hear of all about the activities they are doing within the mission and goals of the organization. She will be attending the fall convention the end of the month at Camp Hill.
Under the Americanism report, Debbie Rougeux, Americanism chair, reminded the units that they will receive the new information on the 2025 Americanism Contest in the spring. She asked that each unit’s Americanism chair get the information out to the area schools. She suggested the unit chair to complete the cover page with their units information, copy it and get it to the kids. This way the kids know who and where and the date it needs back to their unit.
Historian Pat Rougeux, Unit 62 Punxsutawney, reminded each unit to send her their events and activities to be placed in the council’ historian book. Under communication, information was given on the upcoming Legion College to be held on Oct. 26, for the Eastern Section at Mechanicsburg; Legion College. The Western Section will be held on Nov. 2, at Latrobe High School. New this year under Legion College, all reservations must be made online.
Under unfinished business, the council voted to accept moving the council meeting date beginning 2025. Council will meet the third Thursdays of April, June and September. The council’s standing rules were amended to reflect the new dates. Council voted to donate $100 to the Department’s Santa Fund. The Santa Tour will begin Dec. 6-12 and will cover 15 VA hospitals in Pennsylvania. With the many councils and units throughout Pennsylvania, with their donations to the department’s Santa Program, it will allow the auxiliary to provide a gift for each veteran that resides in the VA hospitals.
The next council meeting will be held April 17 and scheduled to be hosted by the John Lewis Shade, Unit 6 Clearfield.
