Greetings, Legionnaires and our American Legion Family,

My fellow Legionnaires, it is with immense gratitude and true humility that I stand before you today, deeply honored by the trust you have placed in me to serve as your Department Commander.

This responsibility is one I do not take lightly. Thank you for your confidence, your faith, and your belief in my ability to lead and serve you.

First, I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to our past leadership. To our Past Department Commanders and senior leaders—thank you. Thank you for your decades of selfless service, for the countless hours you devoted to mentoring, teaching, and guiding us in the foundational principles of The American Legion. We stand on your shoulders, and we will strive to carry forward the legacy of excellence you have built.

For decades, I have lived by a simple quote that reflects this commitment: "Respect the Past and Embrace the Future." Those words have never been more meaningful than they are today.

As we look to the year ahead, we must recommit ourselves to the Four Pillars of The American Legion:

• Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation
• National Security
• Americanism
• Children and Youth

These pillars are more than words on a page—they are the heart of everything we do in our local communities.

As I said throughout my campaign, "It all starts at the Post." Our local Posts are the backbone of this organization. It is through their dedication and hard work that we bring these guiding principles to life every day. Supporting our Posts will be a priority because their success is the foundation of our success.

To the Legionnaires who work tirelessly at the Post level—organizing activities, conducting Buddy Checks, supporting efforts to end veteran homelessness, and reaching out to veterans in crisis through our "Be the One" program—thank you. Your commitment and compassion make a difference every single day.

To our American Legion Auxiliary, Sons of The American Legion, and American Legion Riders—thank you for your unwavering dedication. We are one American Legion Family, and we accomplish our mission best when we work together in unity and purpose.

Speaking of family, I would like to introduce the family God has so richly blessed me with.

My loving wife, Judy, has been my rock throughout our more than fifty-two years of marriage. She has taught me the meaning of unconditional love, kept me grounded, and has been my greatest source of strength and encouragement.

Our daughter, Andrea Marie Fields, is truly God's gift to us. We have watched her grow into a compassionate, beautiful woman with a kind heart, a devoted wife, and an exceptional mother.

Our son-in-law, Dr. Matthew Fields, is a Doctor of Physical Therapy with the Department of Veterans Affairs in Lexington, Virginia. Through his work, Matt serves our nation's veterans in countless ways, and we are incredibly proud of his dedication.

Our granddaughter, Maggie Louise Fields, at eleven years old, is growing into a remarkable young lady. She has already earned several Presidential Academic Awards, and we couldn't be prouder of her accomplishments.

Our grandson, Greyson Alexander Fields, is eight years old and has enough energy to keep all of us moving. He recently told his Nana, "If it's a sport with a ball, I can play it!" I think we may have a future athlete on our hands. He certainly keeps us smiling.

I could not be more grateful or prouder of my family and the love they have given me throughout my life.

I look forward to working alongside our Department Executive Committee as we serve our veterans, our youth, and the great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Let us Move Forward Together, guided by our traditions, our Constitution and Bylaws, and our unwavering commitment to serving our communities.

The Train of Freedom is leaving the station. I invite every Legionnaire and every member of our American Legion Family to climb aboard. Together, we must build momentum early, keep moving forward, and never lose sight of our mission.

Together, we will continue to serve with honor, strengthen our organization, and ensure that The American Legion remains a powerful force for veterans, their families, and our communities.
