The Law-and-order committee met on 8 June 2024 to pick the Law and order awards and the Posts will be recognized at the July 2024, convention. The Elmer Hofer American Legion State Police youth camp will be held this year June 9—15, 2024 (Sunday -Saturday) at Messiah University, Mechanicsburg, Pa. It is hugely popular program for young men and women. The ages are 15-17. The graduation ceremonies are held at 10:00 am on Saturday. The camp this year has app. 75 young men and women starting. The committee met in early January (2024) to choose a fire fighter & Law enforcement officer of the year. The committee would also like to ask American Legion posts to be aware of the American Legion/State Police youth camp and attempt to recruit young adults from 15-17 years of age. There is a “State Police Youth Week” facebook page or go to the Pa. American Legion web site (pa-legion.com) for applications and additional information.

There are a lot of resources that go into this program from the American Legion, Pa. State Police department and the Pa. National Guard. We also would like Posts to be aware that if you do some work for law and order, please let us know, so that the Post can be recognized. The American Legion has some great programs, but we need the members to be involved and help promote these programs also. Please feel free to contact me with any questions about these programs.
