LEGION COLLEGE EAST COMMITTEE
William Whitmoyer
The Legion College East and West Committees met, jointly, at Department Headquarters in Wormleysburg, PA, at 11:30 AM on August 10, 2024. East Chairman Bill Whitmoyer was traveling with family and could not attend the meeting. So, West Chair Susan Patchin ran the meeting and Charles Oakley sat in as the Eastern Chair.
The meeting was called to order and the committee attended to the official paperwork. Sharon Delancy, who coordinates all the functions for the actual connections from the Department HQ and the facilities as well as the transport for the supplies needed, was also in attendance to provide guidance and coordination.
Business items discussed were the manner of application, meal, and the pin for the year.
It was decided to have all those attending register with payment of $25.00 prior to the deadline, and it would all be done online with payment to be managed through one portal. There will be a confirmation email sent to and printed by the registered attendees as verification, if needed. No meal tickets will be issued. Instead, an alphabetical list of registered attendees will be checked by the committee at the entrance to the cafeteria, and pins will be issued at that time.
There will be only one meal choice. Attendees with other dietary needs will have to make alternative arrangements for themselves. The proposed meal was pork loin, mashed potatoes, gravy and corn. The meal is subject to change in working with the facility staff. A Continental Breakfast will also be provided prior to the opening ceremonies.
The same locations and venues as last year will be used, with minor changes to some of the programming. Opening ceremonies will begin at 8:15 a.m., to accommodate a short video program at the conclusion of the opening, prior to the start of classes.
At this point no other information is available, so this is only a partial report of this committee. It is the consensus of the committee that information should be collected and reviewed afterwards, at the end of the programs, and perhaps a follow-on report would be appropriate. The surveys/questionnaires will be very helpful for these purposes and improving the program, so participation should be strongly encouraged to all attendees.
Thank you, Commander Fritz, for this appointment, and for the opportunity and privilege to serve the Pennsylvania American Legion in this role.
