NICHOLAS TAYLOR CHAIRMAN, STATE VETERANS COMMISSION
Lieutenant Colonel Nicholas M. Taylor, US Army Retired, is a native of Norristown, Pennsylvania. After enlisting in the United States Army Reserve on 24 October 1979 and serving almost three years and one-half years as an Enlisted soldier, he was commissioned from LaSalle College (later renamed LaSalle University) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as a Second Lieutenant in the Ordnance Corps on 17 December 1982.
LTC Taylor has completed numerous schools including the Infantry Officer Basic and Advanced Courses at Fort Benning, Georgia; the Instructor Training Course; the US Air Force Squadron Officer School at Maxwell Air Force Base, AL; the Quartermaster Officer Advanced Course, Petroleum Laboratory Officer Course, and the Associate Logistics Executive Development Courses at Fort Lee, VA; the Senior Transportation Officer Qualification Course at Fort Eustis, VA; the Advanced Military Police Branch Orientation Course at Fort Leonard Wood, MO; and the US Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, KS.
LTC Taylor has served in a variety of command and staff assignments including Special Operations Officer, 416th Civil Affairs Company, Norristown, PA; Commander, 401st Quartermaster Detachment (PPL)(MBL), Norristown, PA; Battalion S-4, 1/315th Infantry Regiment (Philadelphia’s Own), 157th Separate Infantry Brigade, Philadelphia, PA; Logistics Staff Officer, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics, HQ 79th US Army Reserve Command, Willow Grove, PA; Brigade S-4, 1185th US Army Transportation Terminal Brigade, Lancaster, PA; S-2/3, later, Executive Officer, 5/80th Ordnance Battalion, Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD; S-2/3, later, Executive Officer, 1st Brigade (MP-OSUT), Fort Meade, MD, and culminating his career as the Acting Brigade Commander, HQ, 2d Brigade (Transportation), 94th Division (Force Sustainment), Harrisburg, PA. LTC Taylor was retired from the United States Army effective 16 December 2010.
During the period of March 2004 through June 2008, LTC Taylor was called to Active Duty with US Army Materiel Command in direct support of Operation Iraqi Freedom III, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Noble Eagle. In challenging command and staff duty assignments of significant importance, LTC Taylor has served as Deputy Director of the Logistics Operations Center, HQ, Army Field Support Command (now Army Sustainment Command), Rock Island, IL; Chief, Logistics Assistance Office, later, Commander, Logistics Support Battalion, 3d Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, GA and also in Baghdad, Iraq; Commander, Logistics Support Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division, Baghdad, Iraq; Commander, Logistics Support Battalion, Fort McCoy, WI; Executive Officer, 406th Army Field Support Brigade, Fort Bragg, NC. His last assignment on Active Duty was Commander, Logistics Support Battalion, Fort Knox, Kentucky.
LTC Taylor’s civilian education includes an Associate in Science degree in Liberal Studies from Montgomery County Community College and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from LaSalle University.
Prior to returning to Active Duty, LTC Taylor held the position of Chief of Staff and later, Vice Commander, Pennsylvania Wing, Civil Air Patrol. He is a rated Master Observer and a licensed radio operator. He has earned certification as an Expert Ranger and has commanded the Civil Air Patrol National Search and Rescue School located at Hawk Mountain, PA, the oldest continuously administered Search and Rescue school in the Nation. In his civilian career, LTC Taylor is the Deputy Director of Public Works for Army Reserve’s 99th Readiness Division headquartered at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey.
LTC Taylor's awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Commendation Medal with five Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Meritorious Civilian Service Medal (the civilian equivalent of the Meritorious Service Medal), the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal with two silver Oak Leaf Clusters, the National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Star, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. He has also earned the Senior Army Aircrew Wings and the Expert Infantry Badge.
LTC Taylor is the current Chairman of the Pennsylvania State Veterans Commission, a position that he has been elected to since October 2021; the Immediate Past National Adjutant of the Catholic War Veterans from 2017 to 2023; the Department of Pennsylvania Immediate Past Commander of the Catholic War Veterans, and the current President of the Pennsylvania Council of Chapters of the Military Officers Association of America.
