November Americanism Notes:
Hello all and welcome to the last month of the first quarter of our American Legion year. Time really does fly.
If your late for things it's because you forgot the "fall back" for your clocks. Plus it is a great day to check the emergency alarms for the home. Fire alarms and carbon monoxide alarms should be tested.
Also, in the same frame of mind it is a great time to do "Buddy Checks". Contact members to make sure they remembered these important checks for their safety. Then while you are in contact you can check to make sure they are doing well physically and/or mentally.
This month becomes the beginning of difficult memories for many veterans, the memories of being away in combat or major battles during November or December plus not being home with family can really trigger issues. That makes it important to do those all important "Buddy Checks."
Now is the time to "Be the One" and do for your brothers and sister veterans.
Veterans Day is coming up on November 11th.
Participation in the community to show, where and why we are the American Legion. This is the day originally call Armistice Day when WWI ended, these were the returning veterans that came up with the idea and began our organization.
We did our civic duty as Americans by voting in free elections for the next leaders of our nation. We are a non partisan organization but we can do our civic duty by voting, helping others get to the polls or even helping in parking lots to direct voters to a place to park. If there are lines having bottles of water for voters in line. The BIG thing is we do not support ANY specific candidate, just the civic responsibility.
Remember, to work with the students and schools for the Essay & Oratorical contest participants. Those deadlines are fast approaching.
Lastly, it is the time we gather with family to give thanks for all the blessing we enjoy. Happy Thanksgiving!
