SONS, LETS MAKE BUDDY CHECKS AS WELL
SAL National Commander Navarrete encourages Sons to support the Buddy Check and Be The One missions.
Hello, American Legion Family.
As we move on from the Fall Meetings in Indianapolis, we are well aware of the challenges our Legion Family in the Southeast faces in the aftermath of two powerful hurricanes.
Hurricane Helene’s historic impact on Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia will be felt for a long time. Some areas will take months to recover from the record rainfall that left such terrible damage behind.
Then came Hurricane Milton, adding even more devastation as it crossed Florida.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by these and other natural disasters. But as American Legion National Commander James LaCoursiere said at the Fall Meetings, we must support those thoughts and prayers with “tangible acts of generosity.”
Many of you have already done so by joining your Legion posts in collecting donations to help support relief efforts in those communities directly impacted by Helene and Milton. Please continue to do so, and continue to share your efforts with National Headquarters through Internal Affairs and the Media & Communications Division.
I would also encourage you to participate in your post’s Buddy Check efforts, whether you’re in an area affected by these disasters or not. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ annual Buddy Check Week is Oct. 21-25. It’s a perfect time for the Sons of The American Legion to join with the rest of the Legion Family in checking in on our veterans.
Your American Legion post is likely participating in Buddy Check Week. Please join them, and be prepared by using the resources available at Legion.org/Advocacy/Be-The-One/Buddy-Check.
Thank you again for all you to do to support The American Legion, the Legion Family, and your communities.
